Dr Ian Gould is a geologist by profession, with 40 years experience in the minerals industry in diverse and senior positions, mainly within the CRA/Rio Tinto Group, in which he was Group Executive for Exploration and later for R&D and Managing Director-Australia. Ian retired from his executive career in 2000 as Managing Director of the Normandy Mining Group, based in Adelaide and subsequently held a number of non executive directorships in the industry, currently chairing Toro Energy Limited.
 
He has been active on many government advisory bodies  advisory committees and boards and currently chairs the CSIRO Mineral Resources Sector Advisory Committee, as well as SAMPEG and is a member and past Chair of the SA Resorces Industry Development Board. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and of the AusIMM, of which he is a past President and the recipient in 2008 of the Institute Medal. He is the present Chair of the Council of the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS).
 
Ian is also an active volunteer on research, medical and environmental bodies and, in Adelaide chairs the Board of St Andrew's Hospital and is a past President of RFDS Central Operations and of the National Flying Doctor body and a current Board member of Central Operations.
